175 Cagayan officials surrender since Duterte’s drug war

CAGAYAN, Philippines- At least 175 drug-linked government officials in Cagayan have surrendered to authorities so far since the start of President Rodrigo Duterte’s tough campaign against illegal drugs.

In a report, Police Senior Superintendent Amorsolo Dela Cruz, acting provincial director of Philippine National Police (PNP)-Cagayan, said the number is composed mostly of officials and employees of local government units (LGUs).

Dela Cruz said of the 175 surrenderees, 111 are officials and employees of the LGUs, 58 are village (barangay) officials, four are police officers and two are officers of the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP).

He said that one of the four policemen have already been discharged from service while the others are still being investigated.

“We are closely monitoring other government officials in the province for their alleged involvement in various drug-related activities,” Dela Cruz said.

Dela Cruz also said that there over 3,000 drug suspects who have surrendered to police since the launched of their Oplan Tokhang. -Northernforum.net
