TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A 16-year old communist rebel voluntarily surrendered to the military in Cagayan weeks after she was recruited by the New People’s Army (NPA) guerrilla.
Lieutenant Colonel Rembert Baylosis. commander of the 17 Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, identified the rebel returnee with a name “Candy,” a resident of Hacienda Intal village in Baggao town.
Baylosis said Candy also revealed to them that along with her, another three minor and students of Hacienda Intal National High School were also recruited by the NPA.
Candy reportedly told the military that the three new recruits are hiding with the NPA rebels in Balanni village in Sto. Nino town.
Balanni village was the same site where the military and rebels had clash last week, which led to the death of Private First Class (PFC) Rowel Tabuada.
Baylosis said Candy asked to be escorted from Sto. Nino town to surrender in Baggao town.
Candy reportedly narrated her “difficult” dealings in the mountains made her decide to surrender to the government.
She also asked the three new recruits to surrender. –Northernforum.net
