PNP Region 2 record ‘zero case’ of firecracker-related, stray bullet incidents since Dec. 16

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines-The Cagayan Valley regional police recorded zero incidents related to firecrackers and indiscriminate firing since the start of holiday season.

In a phone interview on Saturday, December 30, PNP Region 2 information officer Superintendent Chevalier Iringan said authorities have yet to receive reports on cases they are directed to monitor.

With this, Iringan said the celebrations so far were “peaceful and quiet.”

Iringan said they were asked to enforce the Republic Act No. 7183, which regulates the “the Sale, Manufacture, Distribution, and Use of Firecrackers and Other Pyrotechnic Devices.”

These cases include the following:

  • Use, possession and manufacture of illegal firecrackers;
  • Stray bullet incidents;
  • Indiscriminate firing of firearms; and
  • Fire or burn caused by firecrackers, or pyrotechniques.

Iringan clarified that they are not agency tasked in reporting cases of injuries or deaths caused by firecrackers.

“Sa Department of Health (DOH) po ang monitoring ng mga cases ng nasugatan dahil sa paputok,” he said.

He also urged the public to no longer buy illegal firecrackers and report to police sellers of such.

Under the RA 7183, these firecrackers are the only types of firecrackers that can be manufactured, sold and used:

  • Baby rocket,
  • bawang,
  • small triangle,
  • pulling-of-strings,
  • paper caps,
  • el diablo,
  • skyrocket (kwitis),
  • sparklers,
  • luces,
  • fountain,
  • jumbo regular and special,
  • mabuhay,
  • Roman candle,
  • trompillo,
  • airwolf,
  • whistle device and
  • butterfly.

While these firecrackers are not allowed:

  • Watusi or the “dancing firecracker.”
  • Piccolo
  • Super Lolo and Atomic Big Triangulo
  • Mother Rockets
  • Lolo Thunder
  • Pillbox
  • Boga
  • Big Judah’s belt
  • Big Bawang
  • Kwiton
  • Goodbye Philippines
  • Kabasi
