20 LGUs recognize as child-friendly in Cagayan Valley

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines– The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recently recognized at least 20 local government units (LGUs) regionwide as top performers in the delivery of social services that promote children’s welfare.

Ponciana Condoy, DSWD regional director, said the top performing LGUs include Itbayat, Batanes; Aglipay and Nagtipunan in Quirino; Sta Teresita, Alcala, Buguey and Penablanca in Cagayan; Alicia, San Guillermo, Sta Maria, Burgos, Jones and San Mateo in Isabela; and Villaverde, Bagabag and Ambaguio in Nueva Vizcaya.

Condoy congratulated the recipient-LGUs for their efforts and initiatives in the implementation of various projects and programs in their respective localities in a bid to promote and observe children’s rights.

Condoy also urged other LGUs in the region to follow suit and to transform their municipalities as child-friendly.

In the same venue, at least 88 LGUs in the Cagayan Valley region were also awarded with Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance by the DILG.

The recipient-LGUs of the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance were assessed based on their performances in implementing child-friendly programs and instituting measures that promote child’s right to survival, development, protection, and participation. Oliver Baccay/PIA/ Northernforum.net
