4,000 girl scouts expected to join Cagayan council prov’l camp 2018

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Around 4,000 girl scouts are expected to participate in the 2018 Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) Cagayan Council Provincial Camp in Camp Amparito, Bayo, Iguig on January 31-February 4.

Some 300 troop leaders will also accompany girl scouts campers.

GSP Cagayan Council President Blessida Diwa said in Philippine Information Agency’s Tipon-Tipan that as of Monday, January 29, around 3,500 campers have already confirmed attendance for the annual event.

This year’s camp is the 58th provincial senior camp and 49th provincial junior camp.

Girl scouts will be grouped into eight sub camps named with Ybanag virtues such as mekatalo or trusted, minanguffun or helpful, and minakkikofun or friendly, among others.

The sub camp names are derived from the GSP promise and law, GSP Cagayan Council Commissioner for Training Fely Lattao said.

This year’s theme, “Pangayaya ta Girl Scouting,” is also in Ybanag.

Girl scouts will participate in different activities such as a one-day eco-tour and spiritual tour in various places such as Calvary Hills, Southern Agricultural Research Center in Minanga, and provincial museum.

Cagayan Council has also partnered with line agencies such as National Economic and Development Authority, Department of Tourism, and Department of Agriculture to inform scouts, which are seen by GSP as future leaders, about the mandates and programs of government offices.

“It will be a unique tour for them and they will have their own tour guide for each regional line agency. So it will be a learning process for these girl scouts,” Diwa said.

The camp also seeks to challenge girl scouts to “live outdoors” aside from learning leadership and other values.

Meanwhile, security will be heightened for the annual camping. GSP has already coordinated with Cagayan Police Provincial Director Waren Gaspar Tolito, and Tuguegarao City and Iguig town chiefs for 24/7 security.

Visiting schedule will also be set for parents to ensure security within the 10-hectare GSP lot in Iguig.

Registration fee for the camp is P700 exclusive of food.

Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba will be the guest of honor and speaker. Northernforum.net
