8 Nueva Vizcaya irrigation systems to benefit from NIA, prov’l gov’t project

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Eight communal irrigation systems (CIS) in Nueva Vizcaya will be benefited in the National Irrigation Agency’s (NIA) “Balikatan Sagip Patubig” (BSPP) irrigation rehabilitation program.

The eight CIS are Limmansangan CIS, Paitan CIS, Lower Calitlitan CIS, Lower Sisi CIS, Tucanon CIS, Allay Nangcapalan CIS, Paoac Barobbob CIS, and Tucanon small-scale irrigation system, the provincial government said in a release.

Launched in 1999, BSPP aims to assist local government units to “be financially and technically capable” in developing CIS.

The said program is jointly undertaken by the Department of Agriculture through NIA, the provincial government, and irrigators associations.

Currently, the BSPP has an allotted P100 million for the rehabilitation and development of communal irrigation systems, the release said.

Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Government said the program will be implemented as Governor Carlos Padilla, NIA’s Engineer Roland Apaga, and several irrigators associations signed a memorandum of agreement on Friday, January 12. Northernforum.net
