Ahead of 2 supermalls, CAGELCO 1 to install new substation

SOLANA, Cagayan- Due to the increasing demand of power supply, the Cagayan Electric Cooperative I (CAGELCO I) is set to construct new sub-station in barangay Caritan Norte in this city to increase power load capacities of the distribution lines to its consumers.

Engr. Tito R. Lingan, general manager, said the installation of the new sub-station is in anticipation of the needs of the mushrooming business establishments in the city to include the two supermalls, one hypermetric and one feed mill, aside from the increasing number of households.

“The sub-station will cater into the needs of these new establishments as well as strengthen capacities of our feeder lines to eliminate line tripping that causes unscheduled power interruptions,” Lingan said.

Lingan said the sub-station, once completed, will suffice the demand of the member-consumers and ensure that the distribution facilities to the households will not be greatly affected by the increase in demands of the business establishments.

Lingan further said the work plan of the project has been submitted to the Energy Regulatory Commission since 2011 but it was only approved in 2015.

He said they also started processing the requirements last year but they hurdled on issues on right of way, acquisition of lots, health risk concerns, securing of the environmental compliance certificate, and permit from the city government.

Early this year, CAGELCO already conducted a public consultation about the project wherein people are assured of safety and health, especially residents near the sub-station. Oliver Baccay/PIA
