Another Cagayan student earns medal in int’l math contest

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A junior high school student of the University of Saint Louis (USL) bagged a bronze medal in the Olympics Mathematics 3D Cup Pan-Asia Pacific International Invitation Competition in Macau, China, on July 7-10.

Julie Anne Supeña, a grade 10 student, was one of the representatives of the Philippines who competed against eight other countries.

She first joined the Mathematics Training Program in preparation for two international contests, including the 3D Cup PAP.

In a Facebook post, she said “Thank you for my ever supportive family, friends and especially to God who guided me all throughout this rigorous training and competition.”

In a statement in their official website, USL Junior High School Mathematics Coordinator Rosel Gannaban said that Supeña’s victory is another blessing as Supeña is an addition to the number of USL High School students who competed internationally and came back home as winners.

Team Philippines won 22 bronze and two silver medals this year.

Supeña also participated in another international Mathematics competition, the International Mathematics Wizard Challenge (IMWiC) in Xiamen, China last May.

The competition is part of the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild Philippines 2017 International Mathematics, Science and Sudoku contests. These aim “to provide the Filipino student-participants with appropriate venues to enhance their skills in Mathematics, Science and Sudoku through their participation in International competitions.” Northernforum.net
