TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Police Chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa ordered police here to help correct rogue policemen through “kuyog” culture.

In his speech during Police Regional Office 02’s (PRO2) 116th Police Service Anniversary in Camp Marcelo Adduru here on Wednesday, October 4, Dela Rosa ordered police to be vigilant of their comrades who are doing illegal activities.

“Once [na] meron tayong masamang pulis, kuyugin natin [sila] para hindi na [sila] dumami. Dahil kung pababayaan natin [sila] yan, patay tayo,” Dela Rosa said.

“Nalaman mo na gumagawa ng masama [ang isa sa inyo], sabihin mo sa [ibang] kasamahan ninyo, puntahan natin itong kasamahan natin [at] kausapin natin,” he added.

Bato believes that the “kuyog” culture is a counter-measure against police scalawags. He said that, despite their few numbers, scalawags have been damaging the image of the police, admitting that crooked ways of cops have been happening ever since.

Dela Rosa reminded erring cops or what he called “scalawags” to instead emulate ‘good cops.’ “‘Wag ninyong tularan ang mga kapwa nating pulis na nawala sa tamang landas,” he said.

He clarified that the “kuyog” culture does not mean police are encouraged to violate the law or resort to physical measures to correct rogue cops.

Meanwhile, Dela Rosa commended PRO2 and Regional Director Robert Quenery for nabbing more than 2000 drug pushers and users, and for having 26,000 drug surrenderers or “tokhang responders” in the region since the start of Project Double Barrel Reloaded.

He also congratulated Batanes as the first drug-free province; and the towns of Divilacan and Maconacon in Isabela for being declared as drug-free towns. The police general hopes that more towns in the region would follow suit.

In his speech, Bato also ordered PRO2 to continue the fight against those with loose firearms, illegal logging, and illegal gambling.. Norternforum.net
