TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Cagayan provincial government has allotted P23,373,420 to fund and support its division’s delegates for the 2018 Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association meet.
The governor’s Education Consultant Clarita Lunas said Pagdidinnamagan, Kapehan sa Kapitolyo on Monday, February 5, the funds will come from the Special Education Fund (SEF).
The funds for food for athletes during their 40-day in-house training is P10,112,000. During CAVRAA proper, P2,048,000 is allotted for food. Food is prepared by the division’s dietitian, Lunas said.
The fund also allots P3,791,610 for athletic uniforms and jackets, P2,256,610 for athletic equipment, P800,000 for allowance, and P700,000 for transportation of delegates.
The provincial government has also secured funds for winning athlete’s incentives. For individual game winners, champions will get P10,000, second placers will get P5,000, and third placers will get P3,000. In group competitions, first placers will get P5,000, second placers will receive P3,000, and third placers will get P2,000.
Lunas noted that this year’s funding is higher compared to last year’s P19 million fund. Despite this, the former education department official said Cagayan was able to reap 91 medals.
With more funds and longer in-house training this year, Lunas and the division expect better performance from Cagayano athletes. “I don’t see any reason na hindi agga number one ang Cagayan…Should we stick to 91 or we go for 100, or higher than that?,” Lunas said.
“You are given everything, all the comforts of the camp are given to you. We check on the water, we check on everything…I think wala ngayong [problema],” Lunas said.
As defending CAVRAA champion, Cagayan will have a total of 874 delegates for the annual meet. The delegation is composed of 526 athletes, 75 coaches, 33 chaperons, 10 mandated officials, 60 camp staff, 70 training staff, 20 medical staff.
Further, the delegates is expected to be accompanied by their three representatives at congress, 17 elected officials, provincial heads, consultants, Department of Education officials, and sports council members.
The delegates will compete with their new uniforms, retiring maroon for the new division color of red with gray and white.
On Sunday, February 4, Governor Mamba paid a visit to Cagayano athletes and rounded them up for a pep talk at the provincial coliseum.
Meanwhile, Lunas said the dance sport competition will be included in the final medal count for the first time. The Search for Mr. and Ms. CAVRAA 2018 will be held on Saturday, February 24.
