Cagayan, Batanes under Signal Number 1 due to Tropical Depression Kiko

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The state weather bureau PAGASA on Monday, September 4, hoisted Storm Signal Number 1 over Batanes and Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands as Tropical Depression Kiko moves towards extreme North Luzon.

In its 11 pm advisory, PAGASA said Kiko has maintained its strength and is expected to make landfall over Babuyan Group of Islands, north of mainland Luzon on Tuesday night, September 5.

The following areas were place under Storm Signal Number 1:

  • Cagayan, including Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands
  • Batanes
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Apayao

PAGASA said the tropical depression was last located 365 km East Southeast of Casiguran, Aurora and is moving at 17 kilometers per hour (kph).

Kiko has maximum winds of up to 55 kph and gustiness of up to 65 kph.

It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday, September 6.

PAGASA said moderate to occasionally heavy rains is expected over northern Luzon by tomorrow evening. Residents in these areas advised to be alert against possible flashfloods and landslides.

They also warned fisherfolk and those with small seacrafts not to venture out over the eastern seaboard of northern and central Luzon due to approaching tropical depression.  Northernforum.net
