Cagayan board member eyes lighting ‘Cagayan’s Golden Gate Bridge’

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- This province may soon have its own version of the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco, California, United States (US) once the lighting up of Magapit Suspension Bridge is approved by the provincial board.

In a press statement on Thursday, January 19, the Cagayan public information office said 1st District Board Member Ma. Olivia B. Pascual confirmed that the provincial has approved on first reading the ordinance proposing the lighting up of Magapit Bridge in Lallo town

The bridge is known as the first ever suspension bridge built in Asia.

Pascual, who proposed the ordinance, said that the proposal could be of help in boosting the province’s tourism performance.

“The lighting of the Magapit Bridge can be likened to that of San Francisco’s Golden Gate. It is one of the famous attractions in America due to its magnificent and extravagant lightings. Should the ordinance be approved with its proposed budget, I can assure that foreign tourists will have interest on it as well as local tourists in the country,” she added.

Pascual said she is hoping that the proposed ordinance should be supported, adding that progressive provinces in the country are mostly known for its tourist destinations.

“Progressive provinces in the country generate huge returns mostly from their tourist industry and it is just right to support the development of potential tourist spots in Cagayan like the Magapit Bridge,” she said. –Northernforum.net
