Cagayan cop, farmer killed in recent shootings

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Two men, one of them a police officer, were killed in separate shootings in Cagayan province on Thursday, September 21 and Friday, September 22.

In a report, the Alcala police said Senior Police Officer 3 (SPO3) Romeo Bueno died on the spot after motorcycle-riding gunmen shot him several times in Alcala town on Thursday,

Bueno was reportedly on his way to the police station when the incident happened.

In his interview with a local radio, Cagayan provincial police chief Senior Superintendent Warren Tolito said they are still determining if Bueno’s killing has connections to either his job or to illegal drug trade.

Meanwhile, a 45-year old farmer was also killed in Barangay Cumao in Gattaran town Friday night.

In an interview, town police Chief Inspector Rodel Tabulug of Gattaran said the victim, identified as certain Rommel Delos Santos, died on the spot after sustaining three gunshot wounds from a suspected shotgun.

Tabulug said the police have yet to identify the suspects’ motives  but police are looking into the previous homicide charges against Delos Santos.

He said Delos Santos was able to settle the case by paying the family a P100,000 cash.

He added that they are also considering the angle of altercation and hate since the victim was known as “bullheaded” when drunk.

“Kasasabi lang din sa akin ng kapitan nila na sakit daw siya ng ulo sa barangay kapag nakainom. Nagwawala daw,” Tabulug said. Northernforum.net
