Cagayan mayors urge prov’l board to pass annual budget

TUGUEGARAO CITY, PHILIPPINES– At least 25 mayors in Cagayan province signed the resolution of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP)-Cagayan chapter urging the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (provincial board) to approve the 2017 budget.

LMP President and Tuao town mayor Francisco Mamba Jr, in statement to Cagayan Provincial Information Office, said the provincial board, headed by Vice Governor Melvin “Boy” Vargas Jr, should consider the appeal of the mayors “for the sake of the Cagayano people.”

He said provincial board should put the people first before any personal political affiliation.

In a resolution, the Cagayan mayor’s league said all the 16 mayors present during an en banc meeting of the Provincial Development Council (PDC) “approved” the Provincial Development Investment Program (PDIP).

“The Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s inaction on the budget results in the unnecessary delay in the implementation of essential programs, projects and activities. This is a disservice to the people of Cagayan,” the resolution said.

Twenty-five of the 28 mayors of Cagayan signed a resolution throwing their support behind Governor Manuel Mamba.

Earlier, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed a lengthy resolution questioning the Local Development Investment Plan (LDIP) CY 2017-2022 of the Mamba administration.

The resolution also noted “findings, observations and recommendations” for Mamba’s “rectifications.”

Mamba also accused the provincial board of “nitpicking” and “politicking” for the “non-passage” of the 2017 budget. Northernforum.net
