CAUAYAN CITY, Philippines- The city government here has started implementing President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order 26 or the nationwide smoking ban.
Errol Maximo, city anti-smoking ordinance focal person, said city mayor Bernard Faustino Dy wants strict implementation of the smoking ban to ensure a smoke-free environment and harness a healthy community for all.
Maximo said, prior to the effectivity of the nationwide smoking ban, the city government has already passed an ordinance prohibiting smoking tobacco products or electronic cigarettes in public places and conveyances.
Maximo urged the public to help them make this advocacy effective to ensure that every life is protected from the hazardous effects of smoking.
Jose Abad, city administrator, said under the executive order, individuals caught violating the smoking ban will face fines ranging from P500 to P10,000 depending on the number of offenses while establishments violating the same may be fined P5,000 or imprisoned for not more than 30 days.
