Creation of Tuguegarao City ICT Council eyed

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)– R02 and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) met with the city government of Tuguegarao over weekend to discuss the proposed creation of ICT Council in this city.

DTI-02 information officer Manilyn Ponce, said that the meeting was in line with their vision to establish an active and robust Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Industry in the Cagayan Valley Region.

Among the top ten emerging locations today, only Tuguegarao City does not have an ICT Council, she said.

She highlighted the significant role of an ICT Council in the growth and development of the ICT Industry and the local economy as well.

Mayor Bienvenido C. De Guzman II, gladly welcomed the proposal and commitment to organize the Tuguegarao City ICT Council. He also requested the DTI and DICT to assist them in its establishment and operation.

As part of the Council’s initial activities, a Capacity Development (CAPDEV) Workshop and a Rural Impact Sourcing (RIS) Forum will be conducted on August 10-11, 2017.

The CAPDEV Workshop seeks to lay the foundation for the successful operation of the ICT Council and to firm-up the Council’s vision and direction.

On the other hand, the RIS Forum, which will convene over 200 college students, out- of-school youths, and other interested participants, seeks to establish the presence of RIS Services in Tuguegarao City and to educate the participants of the various job opportunities that can be explored under this program.

The DTI, DICT, and the city government of Tuguegarao are optimistic that through this collaboration, Tuguegarao City will reach greater heights. (PR/PNA)
