CSU Carig students, CVMC collect 268 bags in 2-day bloodletting activity

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Some 268 bags were collected as a student organization conducted a two-day bloodletting activity with Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC), this city, on Monday to Tuesday, November 13-14.

Biology Majors Organization (Biomorgan) President Zoran Gismundo said this was their organization’s seventh annual bloodletting activity in Cagayan State University (CSU) Carig.

“In this activity, we do are doing two steps at a time, kasi we are saving your life [donor] and at the same time we are saving other’s lives too,” Gismundo said.

He noted that donating blood gives health benefits including the production of new blood cells which will be more active and immune to other diseases.

“This is very healthy at napakalaking tulong nito hindi lamang sa CSU Carig kundi [pati] na rin sa buong Cagayan,” he added.

Students invited donors from outside the campus and also their friends from Manila who took vacation from the ASEAN festivities.

Donors were also given snacks courtesy of Biomorgan’s partners.

Dubbed as “Dugong Bigay Sagip ay Buhay version 7.0”, the activity already collected 230 donors as of 4:30 pm on Tuesday.

The activity was sponsored by JCI Tuguegarao Makasta, CSU Carig’s student government, Campus extension service, and Doctor Meneses Medical Clinic.

Furthermore, Gismundo said they are planning another bloodletting activity on April.

An earlier bloodletting activity was held in SM Center Tuguegarao through the Provincial Health Office and CVMC together with other partners last October 30. Some 98 bags were collected.

CVMC’s Regie Parayno said in an earlier interview that the number of blood donors is increasing but the demand in CVMC is also increasing.

He said, ideally, CVMC needs 86 bags of blood daily to sustain its demand.

The PHO and CVMC is encouraging the public to donate blood, as one bag can already save the lives of three patients. Northernforum.net
