DPWH starts construction of P182-M Baggao bridge

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Cagayan Valley announced the construction of a new bridge in Baggao town in Cagayan.

In a press release, the agency said the P182-million bridge will replace the damaged Tallang Bridge in Baggao, which has been a perennial problem to residents for years.

During heavy typhoon and raining, the swollen river could make the bridge impassable to all types of vehicles.

“We are implementing the P182-million Tallang Bridge Project along Baybayog-Baggao-Dalin-Sta. Margarita Road which will connect less developed barangays of Baggao to nearby urban centers,” DPWH-Cagayan Valley Director Melanio C. Brioso said.

The bridge is due to be completed and opened to motorists and commuters on May 2018.

It will be constructed with nine spans, with a carriageway width of 7.32 meters with abutments, and eight piers utilizing bored piles as foundation.

Brioso said the bridge will be an “all-weather structure” that can endure strong typhoons.

Baggao town has been identified as one of the hotspots for communist rebels in Cagayan province.

The bridge is also hoped to promote peace and development in the area by improving its rural road connectivity.  Northernforum.net
