Drug suspects from Santiago City nabbed in Cordillera

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Four drug suspects, including a minor, from Santiago City were arrested in Kalinga province on Saturday, February 17.

In a report from Philippine News Agency, Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR) Regional Director Chief Superintendent Edward Carranza identified the drug suspects as Abdul Gafar Batuaan, Jonas Ang, Andre Gonzalo Lazada, and a minor.

The suspects were arrested in a checkpoint at Barangay Bangad, Tinglayan, Kalinga for allegedly possessing illegal drugs.

Carranza said in the report combined personnel of Tinglayan Police and operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested the suspects.

Police said that, before their arrest, suspects were on-board two motorcycles departing from Barangay Buscalan, Tinglayan, Kalinga and were on their way back home to Santiago City, when they were flagged down at the said checkpoint.

Police said almost a kilo of dried marijuana leaves worth an estimated market value of P812,500 was confiscated from the suspects.

The suspects are now in police custody and facing criminal cases for violation of RA 9165 known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002 and RA 10591 known as Illegal Possession of Firearms. PNA/Northernforum.net
