Ex-Cagayan councilor in Duterte drug list gunned down

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A former president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) in President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug list was shot dead in Aparri town in Cagayan province on Friday, June 16.

In a phone interview, Chief Inspector Pepito Mendoza Jr, Aparri town police chief, said Julio Bong Decierto, a former chairman of Barangay San Antonio, was gunned down by three unidentified gunmen around 4 pm on Friday.

Police reports said the gunmen, aboard a private vehicle, barged into Decierto’s house and shot him several times.

Investigators recovered four bullet shells of M16 rifle and one bullet shell of 9MM pistol.

Mendoza said Decierto is on Duterte’s drug list and had once surrendered on the first wave of the Oplan Tokhang of the Philippine National Police to clear his name.

“Alam naman nating lahat, at ng mga tao dito na dati siyang involved sa illegal drug trade,” Mendoza told Forum.

He, however, said that they are not singling out the illegal drug angle in their investigations as Decierto.

Mendoza said they are also looking into his previous altercations in his business and a love triangle as possible motives of the killing.

Decierto has been described as a “notorious character” in Aparri town in 1999 en banc decision of the Supreme Court on a gross misconduct case involving his uncle Judge Segundo Catral. Northernforum.net
