TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A number of unlicensed high-powered weapons were recovered as police seized a beach resort in Santa Ana, Cagayan on Sunday afternoon, August 6.
Santa Ana Police and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested Ofelia Alipio Permienter, 37, wife of Jarl Permientier, a 35-year old Belgian who was being served a search warrant for violating RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The arrested Permienter owns Reggae Resort in Sitio Racat, Barangay Rapuli in the town where high-powered guns, rifles, and rounds of bullets were found, Santa Ana Police Chief Inspector Saturnino Soriano told The Northern Forum.
Saturnino also said that some of the weapons were seized from their Toyota Hi-Ace Grandia van.
The list of seized weapons and bullets included two 5.56 caliber Baby Armalite rifles, caliber .45 and caliber .25, and 49 pieces of live ammo for cal 5.56.
The Belgian Permienter remains at large as a manhunt operation is still ongoing.
Soriano said the couple purchased and stored the weapons for protection against alleged members of the New People’s Army who threatened to enter their resort.
The confiscated weapons are now in the custody of the CIDG.
Soriano said the couple also has a lending business aside from operating a resort. Northernforum.net
