TUGUEGARAO CITY, PHILIPPINES- The provincial disaster team of Isabela province was again declared the best Provincial Disaster Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) unit in the country.
The National Disaster Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday, May 15, announced the winners for the18th Gawad Kalasag National Awards.
The Isabela province was declared best PDRRMC for the second consecutive time. The provinces of Pampanga in Region 3 and Dinagat Island in CARAGA region were declared second and third rank respectively.
The Gawad Kalasag Award, awarded by the NDRRMC and the Office of the Civil Defence, recognizes local disaster teams in their performance in “protecting” and “shielding” high-risk communities against natural hazards, and addressing their vulnerabilities to natural disasters.
Other Cagayan Valley local disaster units also bagged awards in the different categories.
Santiago City in Isabela was declared best City DRRM Council in all component and independent cities nationwide.
The town of Villaverde in Nueva Vizcaya province bagged third place in the Municipal DRRM Council (4th to 6th class) category.
Barangay Alinguigan Second of the City of Ilagan also won first place in the best Barangay DRRM Council (Rural) category.
Meanwhile, the Rescue 922 of Cauayan City, Isabela bagged first place in the Government Emergency Management Services (Urban/Advance) category, while town of Baggao’s Rescue 116 bagged third place in the “basic” category.
The Isabela Provincial Capitol Day Care Center also brought home the Hall of Fame Award for Best Early Learning Center (Urban). Northernforum.net
