Kin of killed Leyte lineman in Cagayan appeals for help

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The family of the lineman from Tacloban, Leyte who killed while helping to restore the power in Cagayan is appealing for help.

In an interview with a local radio, Joseph Betonio, brother of victim Jomar, asked for support for the education of Jomar’s children.

Jomar left his three children and his wife. His children are only 9, 7 and 5 year-olds.

Joseph said his brother dreamed of supporting his children’s schooling needs so they would find stable jobs for themselves.

Jomar was proclaimed dead on arrival, while his companion Reymund Guilaw is still recovering in a hospital after being electrocuted while repairing an electric post in Barangay Natappian, Solana, Cagayan last week.

Betonio and Guilaw are among the more than 80 linemen from Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative who arrived in Cagayan on Wednesday, November 16, to help in the restoration of power in the areas badly hit by super typhoon Lawin last month.

Solana town police SPO4 Roque Binayug, in his statement to Cagayan Electric Cooperative (CAGELCO), said Betonio might have touched a live wire connected to a generator in a nearby house. TNF
