Magat Dam increases gate opening as water level nears critical point

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Magat Dam administration said they have increased the opening of their spillway gate to allow more water release.

In an advisory, the Magat dam irrigation administration said the spillway gate is now be opened at 2 meters, a meter more from its previous 1 meter opening.

As of 8 am on Saturday, August 26, the dam’s water level is now 189.11 meters, only a few centimeters away from its critical level of 190 meters. It’s spilling level is 193 meters.

The water inflow is measured to be at 2099 cubic meters per second while the outflow is 579 cubic meters per second.

The state weather bureau PAGASA on Friday morning issued a flood advisory the following areas:

  • Upper main Cagayan River and its tributaries- Ganano River, Magat River, Diadi River, and Addalam River;
  • Middle main Cagayan River and  its tributaries- Pinacanauan River of Ilagan,  Pinacanauan River of Tumauini,  Pinacanauan River of San Pablo, and the Siffu-Mallig River; and
  • Lower main Cagayan River and its tributaries-  Pinacanauan River of Tuguegarao, Pared River, Chico River, and Dummun River.

PAGASA warned the residents of possible flashfloods and landslides if there are continuous raining in the upper, middle, and lower Cagayan River and its tributaries. Northernforum.net
