Mamba renews call for Cagayan budget’s passage

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines– Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba appealed again to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to pass the 2017 provincial budget as he spoke at the Mappalabbet Festival in Enrile, Cagayan on Tuesday night, August 1.

The governor accused his opponents of politicizing the non-passage of the province’s proposed budget. “They never gave me a chance na makipagtrabaho kadakayo,” he said.

Mamba also expressed his disappointment over his administration’s pending projects blocked by the unapproved P2.8 billion budget, with only five months left for the year.

A day before at the town’s “Pavvurulun Fellowship Night”, the governor asserted that the budget’s non-passage is a “punishment” and an “injustice” to Cagayanos and should not be treated as a punishment to him.

Mamba appealed to board members Karen Turingan, Rodrigo De Asis, and Perla Tumaliuan who were also in attendance for the event to pass the proposed budget.

A few months ago, the Cagayan’s SP did not pass the 2017 budget as Vice Governor Melvin “Boy” Vargas, Jr. said that they were in “comprehensive scrutiny of the executive budget.”

The provincial government is currently at the mercy of the 2016 reenacted budget of P1.9 billion. Northernforum.net
