#NewEDSA: Online rage over new Tuguegarao traffic scheme

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Commuters and motorists in this city took to social media their frustrations over the newly implemented “experimental” traffic scheme on  Thursday, December 15.

The city government of Tuguegarao on Thursday started implementing the new traffic scheme, with hopes to lessen the traffic woes of the residents.

There were major changes in the traffic flow, no parking regulations, parking spaces, unloading and loading areas and truck and van vehicle ban in major roads.

But some said the new scheme made the traffic worse, with some even describing the city metro roads as “new EDSA.”

Students and employees said it took them almost two times than usual to travel to school and work. Tricycle drivers are reportedly refusing to get passengers due to the new 0ne-way roads, resulting to longer routes.

“Mas magulo mas matraffic…ang hirap pa kumuha ng tricy papuntang school,” GJ Sibal said.

For commuter A-Jay Cuntapay, the city government has a good purpose in imposing the new traffic scheme but said they should have considered the shortcuts especially to big establishments.

“Maganda po ang pakay. May magandang dulot ang pagawa ng ruta para sa one way. Yun nga lang sana iconsider po ang shortcuts, mas magpapatagal sa byahe kung masyadong malayo ang iikutan,” Cuntapay said.

Some also suggested the old traffic scheme was way better than the new one.

“Ibalik yung dating routings kawawa kaming mga estudyante na nag cocommute,” Louie Darauay said.

“I think the experiment is not working at all… Heavy traffic is experienced which make us students the tendency to be late in our class. Make another alternatives and plan it well. It is arduous for us to find tricycle/vehicle going to our school. Please change ur plan as soon as possible. Thanks,” Paulo Cacatian said.

Several commenters also called out the traffic enforcers to strictly enforce the no parking regulations.

“And kahit nagsikalat pa ang mga no parking sign lalo na sa mabini st. eh ang rameng paring pumaparada sa tapat pa ng no parking sign..sana po mas tutukan ng mga otoridad naten ang mga pasaway,” Ismael Sarosong said.

The new traffic scheme will run for 60 days, according to Tuguegarao Councilor Danny Baccay. –Northernforum.net
