TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The communist guerrilla members claimed that one military member was killed in a series of rebel attack in Nueva Vizcaya province.

In a press release, the Fortunato Camus Command of the New People’s Army (NPA)-Cagayan Valley said the Venerando Villacillo Command-NPA accounted at least four encounters with the government troops from September 4 to September 7.

The NPA unit said the attacks came as a follow up on the September 1 attack, which already claimed the lives of four soldiers of the 86th Infantry Division.

It added that the alleged military casualty was recorded on September 7.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines, however, has not released reports of any casualty on September 7.

“The AFP pursuit operation [in relation to September 1 encounter] has since resulted in the evacuation of some 2,000 residents in the [towns of Kasibu and Dupax,” NPA said.

“The military has also prevented the distribution of relief goods of non-government organizations and government agencies, saying that the goods will just go to the NPA. The affected families call for an urgent cessation of military operations in the area,” the statement added.

The military, in an earlier statement, condemned the attacks perpetrated by the rebels, vowing for hot pursuit operations to bring them to justice. Northernforum.net
