NPA rebels admit burning equipment in Cagayan, Quirino

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – The New People’s Army (NPA) on Tuesday, March 28, admitted to burning construction equipment in a separate incident in the provinces of Cagayan and Quirino as a “punishment.”

Victor Servidores, spokesperson of the NPA’s Fortunato Camus Command operating in Cagayan Valley region defended their actions saying the two construction companies “[disobeyed] the laws of the National Democratic Front (NDF).”

“Ang sinumang lumabag sa batas ng DGB (Demokratikong Gubyernong Bayan) ay may pananagutan at may katapat na kaukulang hakbang parusa,” Servidores said in a statement published in the armed group’s website.

(Anyone who disobeys the law of NDF will be held responsible and will be meted with punishment.)

In a phone interview on Tuesday, March 28, Lieutenant Colonel Rembert Baylosis said the rebels burned the heavy equipment of a construction company in Baybayog village in Alcala, Cagayan.

Baylosis said the rebels were able to burn the hauler truck, compactor and two backhoes of Pulsar Construction.

The company is currently constructing roads connecting Alcala to Baggao town.

Baylosis said the four to six men attack the construction’s station by pouring gasoline and sparking fire to the equipment.

“From the modus, they are NPA [rebels],” he said.

Meanwhile, a backhoe was also burned down by suspected members of guerilla in Maddela town in Quirino province.

Colonel Jose Cagara of the 86th Infantry Batallion said the equipment is being used by Ricardo Interior Construction Corporation in concreting a road in Ysmael village in Maddela.

Cagara said burning was done after company officials allegedly refused to pay the NPA rebels their “revolutionary taxes.”-Northernforum.net
