OWWA releases P36.9M cash aid for Lawin-affected OFW families

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan- The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) here has released the additional P36.9 million funds for atleast 15,000 Overseas Filipino Workers’ families affected by ‘Lawin’ in Cagayan and Isabela.

Robert Bassig, regional director, said there were 9,939 and 4,499 families who already received their one-time cash assistance from Cagayan and Isabela provinces, respectively.

He said at least P19.9 million financial assistance has already disbursed to said beneficiaries during the first tranche.

Bassig said the additional P34.9 million funds will be given for pending applications under the first batch who were not covered by the first tranche and for the second batch of applicants.

“We will only accept applications under the second batch once we already paid all the pending applications in the first batch,” Bassig said.

Earlier, OWWA has suspended the acceptance of applications when the number of applicants reached to more than 20,000.

Bassig said based on their guidelines, a family with two or more OFW members who are not yet married is counted as one beneficiary only.

The director again sought the indulgence of the public to patiently wait for the release of their grants. He assured the beneficiaries that they will do their best to facilitate the fast release of their claims. -PIA
