OWWA temporarily stops processing of cash aid for typhoon victims in Cagayan Valley

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Cagayan Valley region has temporarily stopped processing application for financial assistance to the families of the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who suffered from the wrath of super typhoon Lawin.

In a statement, OWWA-Cagayan Valley regional director Robert Bassig said the P20-million fund allotted by the central office has been disbursed completely over the past month.

The OWWA earlier announced that they will be granting cash assistance to the families of OFWs in Cagayan, Isabela, Kalinga, Apayao, Northern Abra and Ilocos Norte under the Cash Relief Assistance Program.

Bassig said starting Tuesday, December 7, they will only accept application requirements from the scheduled beneficiaries while waiting for additional funds.

Bassig said the additional fund may be released next week following their request on Tuesday.

He also said they will stop accepting new application until they are finished with the over 16,000 applicants from all over the region.

He explained that the P20-million fund has been depleted shortly after they opened their satellite office in Ilagan City on November 14. – Northernforum.net
