P20-M budget set for rehabilitation of houses damaged by Lawin in Cagayan


TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The provincial government of Cagayan will be releasing P20-million fund for the rehabilitation of residential houses destroyed during the onslaught of super typhoon Lawin, the provincial information office said.

Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba, after a meeting with his department heads, said they are prioritizing the 11 most-affected areas in the province:  Peñablanca, Tuguegarao City, Enrile, Solana, Iguig, Amulung, Tuao, Baggao, Alcala, Piat, at Sto. Nino.

In their latest data, more than 25,000 houses were totally damaged while 93,834 were partially damaged.

The 11 areas, according to Mamba, will receive G.I. sheets and carpentry materials to help them rebuild their homes.

An inspection to affected areas will show most houses that were totally damaged by the typhoon are yet to be rehabilitated.

Governor Mamba said he is also planning to program a Bayanihan (helping one another) to speed up the recovery of the victims.

He said they will be releasing P10,000 for each purok (sub-village) and to every barangay (village) for carpentry materials such as hammers, nails, jigsaws. bolo knives and shovels to be used in helping residents rebuild their homes.

Mamba said they have pre-positioned 15,500 pieces of G.I. sheets that was already distributed to affected areas starting Wednesday. TNF
