TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The hottest city in the country got colder on Wednesday, February 15, as the state weather bureau records its lowest temperature so far this year.

In a phone interview, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)-North Luzon weather forecaster Boy Bolataolo told The Northern Forum that the temperature drops to 17.3 degrees Celsius around 5:40 am Friday in Tuguegarao.

It is unusual to see people wearing thick jackets and bonnets roaming around the dubbed “City of Fire” due to its recorded high temperature during the months without the cold winds of Northeast Monsoon.

Tuguegarao hit 42.2 degree Celsius on August 19, 1912 and May 11, 1969, the hottest temperature ever recorded in history.

Bolataulo said the temperature is also the lowest since November, the start of the Northeast Monsoon or the Hanging Amihan.

He said the cold weather may prevail until late March but it is expected that the temperature is going to rise the next days.

Meanwhile, Baguio City also recorded its lowest temperature so far this year 6 am Wednesday at 7.3 degrees Celsius.

The temperature surpassed its previous coldest 8 degrees Celsius, which was recorded on Tuesday, February 14. -Northernforum.net
