TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) of Cagayan on Sunday, August 27, warned of possible flooding in the low-lying areas of the province.
In an advisory, Cagayan PDRRM officer Bonifacio Cuarteros said the Pinacanuan overflow bridge and the Teresa Boulevard in Tuguegarao City are no longer passable to all types of vehicle.
Cuarteros said there was a gradual rise of water in the lower main Cagayan River and its tributaries, Pinacanauan River in Tuguegarao, Chico River, Pared River, and Dummun River.
With this, he said floods are possible in the low-lying areas of Tuguegarao City, and the towns of Alcala, Amulung, Gattaran, Tuao, Enrile, Lal-lo, Aparri, Camalaniugan, Iguig, Baggao and Solana.
Cuarteros told the local disaster response units in the said towns to take precautionary actions.
On Saturday, August 26, the Magat Dam irrigation management issued a flood advisory warning its catch basins to take precautionary actions as it set to open more gates.
In its latest monitoring update, the Cagayan Valley regional Office of the Civil Defense said two of the dam’s spillway gates were opened at 3 meters each as it nears its critical level of 190 meters.
The rise of the water level of dam was a result of Tropical Storm Jolina’s heavy raining.
Cagayan province is considered a catch basin, receiving large amount of rainfall from the provinces of Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Kalinga, Apayao and Mountain province. Northernforum.net
