‘Poor’ senior citizens to get cash aid from Cagayan gov’t

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Cagayan Provincial Social Welfare Development Office (PSWDO) is set to give financial assistance for “poorest of the poor” senior citizens of the province.

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (PSWDO) Helen Donato said on Monday, February 12, senior citizens qualified for this program must have no current pension from Social Security System (SSS), Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) or any private institution; or any financial assistance from local government.

She added that qualified beneficiaries will must have no financial aid from the social welfare department or regular source of income.

Senior citizen beneficiaries, Donato said, will get P1,500 each quarter of the year. The PSWDO head said they hope this will help the elderly in their subsistence or medicine expenses.

The program will be implemented once the 2018 budget has been approved.

The said program was developed because, Donato claimed, 10% of a town’s population have yet to receive any pension from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Currently, 14 municipalities have submitted a tentative list of prospective recipients.

The PSWDO chief said they are coordinating with DSWD Region 02 to check the list of those who are already getting cash assistance to determine recipients of the provincial government’s cash aid.

Donato guested in Cagayan Provincial Information Office’s Pagdidinnamagan: Kapehan sa Kapitolyo on Monday, February 12, to talk about her office’s programs and activities. Northernforum.net
