TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Department of Science and Technology (DOST) regional office 2 headed by Regional Director Engr. Sancho Mabborang assisted the production of processed tomato products of the Roxas West Ladies Tomatoes Industry (RoxWELTI).
Provincial Director of Batanes Nora Garcia said that amidst the pandemic, the production of processed agricultural products should continue.
The production is led by RoxWELTI, a non-government organization of ladies who trained in Sentro Bahaginan Skills Training Center.
Founder of Sentro Bahaginan Corazon C. Calderon said that they aim to create employment for the people of Roxas.
“Mayroong estimated 20,000 kilos ang on going ng pag prosesa ng RoxWELTI sa bayan ng Roxas. Ito ay malaking tulong sa ating mga kababayan habang mayroong pandemya para sila ay magkaroon ng trabaho,” she added.
According to Calderon, the estimated price of the 20,000 kilos tomatoes is P200,000.
Sentro Bahaginan is also the processing area of the tomato production in the said municipality.
Calderon also said that the production of this tomato produce shows that there are no left overs, which utilizes all the produced products.
“Wala pong waste kahit ni-pirasong kamatis. Ginagawa namin lahat value products at fertilizers,” she added.
Meanwhile, RozWELTI produces tomato wine, candied tomato, tomato paste, juice, chili tomato sauce and vinegar.
Furthermore, the program is partnered with Department of Trade and Industry regional office 2, LGU of Roxas, DOST-RO2, Isabela State University-Cabagan and Singaporean Polytechnic. TNF
