Rep. Ting: Tuguegarao airport can be converted to int’l airport

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines-  Cagayan Third District Representative Randolph Ting dismissed claims that the Tuguegarao Airport cannot be converted into international airport.

In an interview, Ting said the airport’s runway can already be expanded once the construction of a proposed national road bypassing the Carig to Linao to Buntun road is finished.

Ting said the proposal had already secured P100 million funding for 2018. He said the proposal was presented when he was still mayor of Tuguegarao during the administration of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

“Kung mabubuksan itong kalsadang ito, puwede nang i-lengthen iyong airport ng Tuguegarao papuntang Linao Norte. Kasi kung bubuksan na iyong bypass road, puwede nang isara later iyong road sa likod,” Ting told The Northern Forum.

Earlier, Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba said the Tuguegarao domestic airport may soon be transferred as a consequence of the construction of a new international airport in Piat-Amulung area.

The plan to put up the new airport in Piat-Amulung was overturned when the Tuguegarao City government held a public forum on the supposed transfer of the domestic airport.

In the said forum, local officials agreed to look for another site, this time in eastern Tuguegarao area.

Meanwhile, Ting also blasted those claiming that they are working for the improvement of the Tuguegarao domestic airport, saying that he was the one who worked for it.

He said the national government for P253-million fund for the construction of the airport tower and night lightings.

The improvement, according to Ting, will pave way for the all-weather flights and night flights. Northernforum.net
