Santa Ana town in Cagayan may be declared under state of calamity

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Local  disaster risk reduction management council of Santa Ana in Cagayan is working on the possibility of the town being declared under state of calamity.

Provincial Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PCCDRRMO) Head Bonifacio Cuarteros said the town’s DRRM council is currently doing their role to recommend to Santa Ana’s Sangguniang Bayan to approve a declaration of state of calamity.

“Once they reach two or more of the criteria, the local PDRRM could recommend such,” he said.

If approved, the town’s local government unit (LGU) may use their quick response fund for immediate restoration of affected areas, Cuarteros said.

“Marami yung affected populace [o] constituents nila doon. We [PCCDRRMO) could augment [resources] pero yung state of calamity, [sila] ang magdedeclare,” he said.

The PDRRMO chief said they are ready to distribute relief goods should other LGUs request.

Several barangays in the town were submerged while some roads were also not passable as a result of flash floods.

Two casualties were also reported as a result of landslides in some areas of the town. Northernforum.net
