SM Center Tuguegarao to launch solar power facility

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- SM Center Tuguegarao Downtown will launch its 564.48 kilowatt (kW) rooftop solar energy facility on Thursday, December 07.

In a press release, SM Prime Holdings Incorporated said this is their “commitment towards making its operations sustainable and environment friendly as the world prepares for the effects of climate change.”

The solar energy project is composed of 1,764 panels that can produce approximately 1,524 megawatt hours per year, SM stated.

SM added that the solar panels can produce enough power to energize up to 7.5 kW escalators equivalent to 56 escalators at the same time. They also said that the panels can also simultaneously energize 115,043 mobile units.

Meanwhile, the project capacity has an avoidance of 1,143.072 tons of carbon dioxide emission per year which is, SM said, equivalent to plating of 5,715.36 trees per year.

SM also claimed that the new panels are expected to save the mall P5,176,402.56 in electricity bill per month.

Furthermore, SM stated that their solar rooftop is the second industrial solar project in Cagayan, aside from St. Paul University Philippines.

SM said they are committed to their role as a “catalyst for economic growth” by delivering “innovative and sustainable lifestyle cities.” Northernforum.net
