TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Solana Fishery National High School’s Bencelie Fernandez and Bagay Elementary School’s John Benedict Dela Cruz bagged championships under Junior Division and Kiddies Division, respectively, in the Eighth Congressman Randolph Sera Ting Chess Cup at SM Center Tuguegarao Downtown this weekend, February 3 to 4.
Meanwhile, Rod Ivan of Ballesteros, Cagayan landed first runner-up in the junior level and Jasper Pascual of Iguig, Cagayan landed first runner-up.
SM said 202 participants participated in the tournament, with 102 competing under the Junior division for Grades seven to 12; and 100 pupils participating under the Kiddies division.
Each division garnered 29 runners-up and were recognized in the awarding ceremony.
The youngest participant in the tournament was 6-year old Godfrey Jash Pattaui from Namabbalan.
The tournament was facilitated by the Cagayan Chess Development club under the supervision of Tournament Manager Apolinario Agustin, in collaboration with the office of Congressman Ting and SM Center Tuguegarao Downtown.
No less than Congressman Ting, several tournament managers from Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association, and SM Center Tuguegarao Downtown Assistant Mall Manager Kristine Iris Ceballos graced the event. PLL/GTL/PR/Northernforum.net
