Spate of passenger van accidents alarm Cagayan netizens

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The recent spate of vehicular accidents involving the new public utility vehicles (PUVs) have alarmed Cagayan netizens, posting in their social networking accounts their fear and dismay.

Police reports said at least four accidents involving the newly required models of passenger van were reported in just 3 weeks, killing and hurting some of its passengers.

Last November, two separate accidents involving passenger vans happened in Gattaran town. Three people, all women, died in the incidents.

According to Gattaran police, killed in the accidents were Leonila Conde, 45, of Gonzaga town, and Marilyn Aglibao, 55, and Rose Jean Mate, both from Santa Ana town.

In Amulung town, two passenger van accidents was reported in the first week of December, hurting at least 27 passengers and the drivers.

‘Fearful’

Netizens said they are now hesitating to ride passenger van for fear that they might also be involved in an accident.

Miranda Illustrisimo, an overseas Filipino worker, said she is now feared for the safety of her 2 chilren when going home from Tuguegarao City to Buguey town because of the recent accidents.

Others blamed the drivers for driving carelessly.
