Suspected drug lords barangay chief, brother nabbed in Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A barangay chairman and his brother, both suspected local drug lords, were arrested in Barangay Mabuttal East and West, Ballesteros, Cagayan on Wednesday, November 22.

Police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 02 served an arrest warrant to Mabuttal West Barangay Chief Edmundo Uclos, 50, and Arnulfo Uclos, 53.

The arrest warrants were issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Conrado Tabago on Friday, on November 17.

“Arnulfo and Edmundo are members of a local drug group based in Ballesteros, Cagayan and known as untouchables in the area by its residents. The group is co-led by the duo,”  PDEA Region 02 Director Laurefel Gabales said in Inquirer.

In earlier reports, PDEA chief Aaron Aquino said brothers are alleged members of a local drug group based in the said town.

On May 1, PDEA seized around P340, 000 worth of illegal drugs in the Uclos’ homes while serving a search warrant. The two, however, were not in their homes during the raid.

Further, police seized suspected shabu weighing a total of 50 grams that day.

Meanwhile, their other brother, Wilfredo, 60, was killed after an ambush in this city on August. All three reportedly surrendered to Oplan Tokhang in 2016.

The two have already been charged against Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Northernforum.net
