Tuguegarao mayor Soriano wants extension on traffic scheme -official

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Mayor Jefferson Soriano has asked the City Council to extend, for another month, the experimental traffic scheme implemented along major thoroughfares, December 15 last year, an official said.

Vice Mayor Bienvenido De Guzman told Bombo Radyo here that while the scheme, supported by an ordinance, ended December 31, 2015, Soriano has requested the Council to possibly passed a resolution for an extension.

“He wanted the experiment to last until end of this month,” De Guzman said.

The formal request caused De Guzman to call for a special session tomorrow, January 5, to discuss amendments for inclusion to the second implementation based on lessons learned during the December 15-December 30 traffic experiment.

“We were bombarded with negative and positive responses from netizens on social media,” he added.

Comments posted on social media plus verbal suggestions of tricycle drivers in the city will form the basis for some amendments before the scheme will be tried again effective immediately once approved.

He asked residents of the city to give the local government unit the chance to implement the scheme.

“ If we fail, we can try other options to solve the traffic problem in the city,” De Guzman said.

As we post this story, the City Council is all set for the special session tomorrow. The council will resume their regular session on January 10. Benjie De Yro/ Northerforum.net
