Tuguegarao official urges commuters to report abusive tricycle drivers

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- An official of this city is urging commuters to report to them the abusive tricycle drivers following reports of overcharging of fare.

In an interview with a local radio, Andres Baccay, head of the Tricycle Regulation Unit (TRU), warned the tricycle drivers that overcharging is being prohibited by the traffic ordinance.

Complaints on the overcharging followed after the implementation of the new “experimental” traffic scheme last December 15.

Tricycle drivers are also reportedly refusing to get passengers due to the new one-way roads, resulting to longer routes. Passengers are given the option to pay higher than the usual rates.

Baccay said these “abusing” drivers will face penalties, which include fines and confiscation of their license, if found violating the city’s traffic code.

He added that the tricycle drivers have no reason to increase fare rates since they were notified even before the implementation.

Baccay urged motorists and commuters to get the plate number of the erring drivers and report it to mobile number 0905-570-6809. –Northernforum.net
