Typhoon Karen threatens Cagayan Valley provinces

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Typhoon Karen (Sarika) has further intensified as it threatens provinces from Cagayan Valley region.

In its weather bulletin issued 11 PM on Saturday, October 15, state weather bureau said Karen is expected to make landfall over Aurora province, southern part of Isabela, around 2 AM on Sunday, October 16.

Karen has sustained maximum winds of up to 150 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gustiness of up to 210 km/h.

Five areas in Cagayan Valley region were placed under storm warning signalsc. Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino provinces are under Signal Number 3; Southern Isabela is under Signal Number 2 and Northern Isabela and Southern Cagayan are placed under Signal Number 1.

The typhoon was last located at 120 kilometers East Northeast of Infanta, Quezon, moving West Northwest at a speed of  22 km/h.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned residents at the low-lying areas of possible flashfloods and landslides as the typhoon is expected to dump moderate to heavy rains in its 500-kilometer diameter.

karen is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday, October 17, in Pangasinan area.TNF
