TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Typhoon Lawin (international name: Haima) has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the state weather bureau PAGASA said on Monday afternoon, October 15.
In an advisory, PAGASA said Lawin has entered the PAR around 5:30 PM and was located 1,155 km East of Virac, Catanduanes.
Lawin has maximum sustained winds of up to 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 215 kph. It is expected to move west northwest at a speed of 24 kph.
PAGASA said the typhoon is expected to intensify further and could make landfall in Cagayan on Thursday morning, October 20, then cross Apayao and Ilocos Norte.
Lawin is forecast to exit the PAR on Friday, October 21.
The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next weather bulletin to be issued at 11 PM on Monday. TNF
