TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Juan Paulo Fermin celebrated Christmas for the past 16 years without his parents, so he thought of a heartwarming way to make it memorable for the 17th time.
On December 18, Fermin, a native of Tuguegarao City, posted a video on his Facebook taken as he surprised his mom and his stepfather while inside a Philippine Airlines plane from Canada to the Philippines. The post had been viewed 2 million times and was shared and liked tens of thousands times.
In the video, Fermin is seen walking through the plane isles with a bouquet of flowers at his hands as his clueless mother awaits for her greatest surprise of the holiday seasons.
It was his dream as a child, Fermin said, to fly his parents home.
“Today, after 16 Christmases apart – and unknown to my parents, I was actually part of the crew that was flying them home for Christmas,” Fermin said.
In his interview with ABS-CBN News, Fermin said he had planned for the surprise when he found out his parents are flying home a month ago.
He said he requested to the pilot supposedly flying the flight to switch schedules so he could be with his parents on the same plane.
When he posted the video, Fermin said he never expected it to go viral.
“Ini-imagine mo lang siya dati. Never mo ine-expect na darating sa point na ganito. Tapos nag-viral pa,” he told ABS-CBN News.
“Last nilang uwi is 5 years ago. Medyo matagal na kasi I had to finish college and then after some time I went to flying school. So medyo magastos,” he added. Northernforum.net
