TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A 42-year old man died after being run over by a compaction equipment in a construction site in Cataggaman Viejo in this city Friday night, September 1.
Tuguegarao City police said Ernel Gobalda Madraina, a spotter or checker of heavy equipment from Barangay Santa Cruz, General MacArthur, Eastern Samar, was proclaimed dead on arrival in a local hospital due to sustained injuries from the tons-heavy vibratory roller.
Before the incident, police said Madraina was busy texting on his mobile phone while sitting at the rear portion of the heavy vehicle.
At around 7:30 pm on Friday, the suspect, 40-year old Joery Angelada from Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, switched on the engine and started to move the roller backwards, accidentally running over Madraina.
Angelada later told investigating police he did not notice the victim at the back.
Police said the suspect tested negative of alcohol.
