Users of Cash App have less than a day left to submit a claim to receive a portion of a $15 million settlement fund.
Those who had their Cash App account compromised during the data and security breach in December 2021 must file their claim by Monday, Nov. 18, by 11 p.m. PT, which is equivalent to 2 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
The legal action was initiated after the data breach in December 2021, which led to the unauthorized disclosure of personal information belonging to approximately 8.2 million current and former customers of Cash App Investing.
Moreover, the lawsuit claims that a former employee improperly accessed and downloaded the personal information of Cash App users during their tenure, without the consent of those affected.
As part of the resolution, the mobile payment service has been directed to distribute $15 million in damages.
Cash App account holders who experienced unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers from their accounts between Aug. 23, 2018, and prior to Aug. 20, 2024, may be eligible to file a claim for up to $2,500, according to the official Cash App website.

Users who had unauthorized or fraudulent transactions involving their Cash App accounts from Aug. 23, 2018, until before Aug. 20, 2024, can file for a claim up to $2,500, as stated on the Cash App website.
Eligible users must not have received compensation for their losses from Block Inc., Cash App Investing, or any third-party provider, according to the mobile payment service.
What Claims Can Be Filed by Cash App Users?
Cash App outlines several types of claims that can be filed:
- Out-of-pocket losses: Users who can demonstrate their account was part of the data breach can file for reimbursement. Eligible users may receive up to $2,500 after submitting the necessary documentation.
- Lost time: Users may also be compensated for time spent dealing with issues related to unauthorized access and data breaches. Claims can be made for up to three hours at a rate of $25 per hour.
- Transaction losses: Users who suffered financial losses and have not yet been reimbursed can submit a claim for these as well.
What is the Deadline for the Cash App Security Settlement?
The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California recently approved several changes to deadlines concerning this settlement, as per the court records. Nonetheless, the final deadline to submit a claim is set for Monday, Nov. 18.

Individuals should submit only one claim form, even if they have several Cash App accounts. If you need to file claims for multiple accounts, Cash App advises consolidating all relevant Cashtags and claim details onto one form. A Cashtag serves as a unique identifier allowing users to transfer money within the app and is located under the username in your profile section.
