‘Inside job’ seen in robbery of Cagayan State University campus

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- (UPDATED) Police are now investigating the robbery of Cagayan State University (CSU) -Sanchez Mira campus on Sunday, November 6 .

In their initial report, the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Sanchez Mira town said the robbery suspects broke in the cashier’s office using a crowbar.

Police said school authorities only reported the incident to them around 7 am on Monday, November 7, but guard on duty already “noticed” the scattered debris of destroyed padlock on the floor but only recorded it on the security logbook on Sunday.

Investigators recovered a bond paper with blood stain, footprints on bond papers and latent prints of the suspects.

In his letter to CSU President Urduja Tejada, CSU-Sanchez Mira campuschief Froilan Pacris said robbers took P868,451 of cash from the vault.

The money taken were cash collections of school fees and the scholarship grants of students from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Police also said they are seeing inside job in the crime.

They said the suspects seemed familiar of the formation of the cashier’s office.

In an interview with a local newspaper, Lawyer Honorato Carag, CSU chief administrative officer, said it might have taken the suspects two hours to destroy the vault.

Carag also said that the suspects ignored smaller volt inside the room was ignored as the suspects directed their attention to the bigger one where the Php868,451 cash was locked.
