TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- An educational foundation run by a Cagayano family will start accepting prospective students as scholars this year.
Nestor Noel Dayag, chairman of foundation which bears his name said he wants to look for poor but deserving students who are willing to take social work as a degree.
The foundation, probably the first to be manage and operated by an individual family was established to provide social assistance to deserving Cagayanos.
“We don’t solicit for our foundation but we accept volunteers,” Dayag said.
Organize in July last year, the foundation is eyeing at the possibility of establishing a home for the aged and street children, thus the priority for social work as a degree for qualified scholars.
So far, there is no existing Home for the Aged nor a house for street children in the province as the government reportedly can’t afford such expensive facilities.
Its non-existence has somehow affected the lives of aged individuals who depend much on their families who, as reports has it, are sometimes prone to physical and other abuses.
Likewise, a social worker in Tuguegarao admitted that street children are an emerging source of problems for the government in the province, majority are
“Our priority will always be on social work,” the chairman said.
